Possible payment delays over St. Patrick's Weekend
15-18 March 2024
From Friday afternoon 15th March to Monday 18th March, the European SEPA Payment Schemes will undergo a mandatory change.
All Irish banks and credit unions may experience delays in payment processing over this weekend.
As a result, SEPA payments (Euro payments across Ireland & the EU) made on Friday 15th may not be credited to the beneficiary account until Monday March 18th and may not appear in customer accounts over the weekend as is the case normally.
What does this mean for you?
The Irish Banking Community are advising customers to make payments on Thursday 14th March, or early on Friday 15th so that the beneficiary account is credited on Friday.
In other words, if you need to pay someone or a business so that it is in their account by Monday 18th March, it is advisable to make the payment by the morning of Friday 15th, at the latest.
Making the transfer on Thursday 14th would be even better, if possible!
This applies to euro currencies.
